Project Proposal-  *Zaika

I grew up speaking Russian, it is my first language and I was mostly raised by my entirely Russian speaking grandmother. This  is a huge part of my identity and one that I have been more in touch with over the past few years as I grow older and immerse myself into music and art scenes around the world. Russia has been in the midst of a huge musical revolution for years now, as the post soviet generation has begun to shed the shackles of generations prior- resulting in an influx of incredible creations

This painting to the left is an example of a painting I did using music as inspiration with Thomas Bangalter's "Spinal Scratch"

Materials Needed

-Garageband (laptop)

Midi Controller

Guitar

Microphone

Oil paint

Canvas

Russian music is not very popular in the english speaking world, and it is incredibly beautiful with many young artists touching upon intense political issues

  • For my project proposal, I intend to tackle the theme of identity by creating a Russian song with a hand painted cover that will allow me to explore the idea of language being intersected with identity.

  • I believe that making a song in Russian will be a challenge for me, as well as being incredibly enjoyable because it is not the usual “identity” that I put myself into. Throughout my life I have always seen myself as a more visual person.

  • Creating songs has been something that I started doing throughout Quarantine, using Garageband software and midi controllers

  • Working title - “Zaika”
